I have uploaded my excel spreadsheet to the scoring engine online and although each column area is populated with a value for example Emotional Expression 6.2, happiness 6.5, the alpha value boxes all contain a zero, is this correct? Self Esteem Alpha: 0.00 EmotionExpression Alpha 0.00 Motivation Alpha 0.00 EmotionRegulation Alpha 0.00 Happiness Alpha 0.00 Empathy Alpha 0.00 SocialAwareness Alpha 0.00 ImpulseControl Alpha 0.00 EmotionPerception Alpha 0.00 StressManagement Alpha 0.00 EmotionManagement Alpha 0.00 Optimism Alpha 0.00 Relationships Alpha 0.00 Adaptability Alpha 0.00 Assertiveness Alpha 0.00 Well Being Alpha 0.00 SelfControl Alpha 0.00 Emotionality Alpha 0.00 Sociability Alpha 0.00 Total Alpha 0.00

Dear Sharon, Thank you for getting in touch. Yes, this is correct. The alphas in your file cannot be computed because it comprises a single case only. Please consult the statistician/psychometrician in your organization for further details. I hope this helps, Dino

I recently scored my results for the TEIQue-LF (153 questions) and the results file that is provided afterwards shows results for more respondents than were in the original file uploaded. I found all of the duplicates except for one. What should I do?

December 16, 2016

Admin

Dear Jonathan, Thank you for your email. I have never noticed such a problem nor has anyone else reported it. I suggest you re-score your original file from scratch. You can you use the scoring engine as many times as you wish. If you click on the title of the engine, it will take you to the instructions. I hope this helps, Dino

Muhammad Al-Fasi

Dear Sir or Madam, whilst working on the scoring of my data from the TEIQue SF, I have noticed something odd: The syntax for SPSS that you have provided on your homepage here (http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/14) recodes variables in the first line of command for SPSS. Why is it necessary to change some variables into others? This completely changes the results. In example, without the RECODE command, the result of one line of data in total emotional intelligence is 5,8. With the RECODE command it suddenly becomes 3,83. This disparity becomes even more confusing when using your scoring engine on the homepage (http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/15). Because the engine provides the result without the RECODE command (example 5,8), whereas the SPSS syntax that you provide does result in the one with recode (example 3,83). Which result can be trusted? Is there something I am missing here? Please let me know.

November 21, 2016

Admin

Dear Muhammad, Thank you for getting in touch. I just double-checked the SPSS and on-line scoring TEIQue-SF results and they are the same. Please ensure you are following the instructions correctly. As regards the necessity of reverse-scoring (RECODE), please consult with your university adviser or statistics consultant. I hope this helps, Dino

Michael

Dear Konstantine, I'm considering to use TEIQue in my study (PhD in Clinical Psychology). I'm wondering if SPSS syntax for scoring is available for free also for long form of the test. Because - of course - I need to know the association between items and scales to calculate 15 facets and 4 factors. For TEIQue-SF is possible to know that from SPSS syntax for scoring (present in your website) but not for long version. Could you help me? Thanks

October 06, 2016

Admin

Thank you for your email Michael. The scoring key for the full form of the TEIQue is not publicly available, but the scoring engine on the website will score your dataset automatically. Good luck with your PhD, Konstantin

Please I'm a final year student of University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Ghana and with regards to our dissertation we are working on emotional intelligence. We need a questionnaire to collect data for our analysis and would want to use the short form of the TEIQue but don't have access to that. Can you please help us out? Thank you.

August 30, 2016

Admin

Dear Emmanuel, Thank you for your message. However, I'm not sure I understand your request. The TEIQue-SF is already available on this website and you do not need permission to download and use it for academic research purposes. Please see our FAQ at http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/18 All the best, Dino

I was directed here in relation to the new SRA's new approach to professional competence. TEIQue is a brilliant tool, and I've found the results incredibly useful. My only downside is my alphas are all at 0 (n.b. I have enabled editing in Excel but they have not recalculated). Is there a way I can fix this?

August 09, 2016

Admin

Dear Ben, Thank you for your email and kind words. The reason why the alphas are all 0 in your EXCEL file is because there is only one case in it. Cronbach’s alpha is a property of samples, not individual cases. I hope this helps, Dino

Samatar Elmi

Hi, I recently used the TEIQue-SF-30 questionnaire with my students and received these alphas: Well Being Alpha 0.50 SelfControl Alpha 0.35 Emotionality Alpha 0.46 Sociability Alpha 0.45 Total Alpha 0.77 Are they too low? I read that acceptable internal consistency for this particular format is around 0.69. Where can I find out more about the various scales for analysing reliability and internal consistency. Thank you

July 31, 2016

Admin

Dear Samatar, Thank you for getting in touch. Yes, these alphas (especially the value for the global trait EI score) are lower than we typically obtain. If you are using an independently performed translation, then I would recommend that you double-check the quality of the translated items. Should you wish to consult the scoring key of the TEIQue-SF in this process, it is available at http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/15. Kind regards, Dino

Luis Flores

I just took the TEIQue v 1.50 and the results gave me all alpha values at 0. Like Kate Miller, I don't understand what that means. Can I also send my results to admin@teique? Thank you!

July 26, 2016

Admin

Dear Luis, Thank you for getting in touch. Kate Miller rechecked the scoring instructions at http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/15 and realized she had not prepared the file correctly, so she amended it and resolved the issue. However, you will see that her problem was negative alpha values. If you are getting 0 alpha values for all TEIQue variables, you need to click the "enable editing" button in EXCEL to allow the macros to run in order to calculate the alphas. I hope this helps, Dino

Hi I have scored my data using the online function - thank you very much. but I have bee left with a very low Alpha for all and for some they are negative values - Well Being Alpha 0.42 SelfControl Alpha -0.35 Emotionality Alpha -0.48 Sociability Alpha 0.36 Total Alpha -0.28 I don't understand what this mean - can you help?

July 10, 2016

Admin

Hello Kate and thank you for getting in touch. Either there are data entry errors in your dataset or you have not used the scoring engine correctly. Double-check everything carefully and if you still experience difficulties with the online system, score your data manually following the information at http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/15 (if you have used the TEIQue-SF) or email your dataset to admin@teique.com (if you have used the TEIQue v. 1.50). I hope this helps, Dino

Dear Ahlan, Thank you for your message. I can confirm that the engine works correctly when you follow the instructions (http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/15) and the information for manual scoring is complete and accurate (http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/15). If you have difficulty using these, please consult with the statistical advisor or psychometrician in your institution. Thank you Dino

Dear Grace, Thank you for your email. Q: "i read your website, you said that can upload excel file...is it means the data i have collected and i can key in all the data, and the system will help me interpret?" A: Yes. You can try the system as many times as you wish and you will see how it works. Detailed directions are available here: http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/15 Please note that the system provides only raw scores for statistical analysis along with Cronbach alphas. It does not provide normed or STEN scores (see FAQ at http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/18) Q: but before this, is it possible for me to know how the calculation works and how it interpret the scores in order for me to tell my supervisor how am i going to use this questionnaire...thanks a lot :) A: Yes, you can access the manual scoring instructions for the TEIQue-SF from here: http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/15. Thank you, Dino

I am trying to score the TEIQue-SF; however, i ran it through the system and no scores came out i would like to obtain the sub scales for the questions on the TEIQue-SF and some manual scoring instructions; please????

June 28, 2016

Admin

Thank you for your email. Please can you email your EXCEL file to admin@teique.com so we can check it? With respect to manually scoring the TEIQue-SF, the full instructions can be found here: http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/15 Thank you Konstantin UPDATE: This file could not be automatically scored because it was not based on the system's EXCEL template. The scoring engine will only recognize the EXCEL template that is downloaded in STEP 1 of the scoring process: (http://www.psychometriclab.com/Home/Default/15 ).

My name is Janice O'Neal and I am a graduate student at Central Michigan University in the Master of Science In Administration program conducting research to fulfill graduation requirements. For my final project, I am examining Emotional Intelligence and Leadership within my organization. I conducted a survey utilizing the TEIQue-SF and now and trying to get my results scored. I completed the excel dataset and entered it into the scoring program, however, I received an error message stating that an "ERROR OCCURRED." Please advise if this is something that can be done or the process in which to have this done. Thank you for your time.

April 19, 2016

Admin

Thank you Janice. Your file seems to have zeros in it. As stated in the scoring instructions "All TEIQue responses must range between 1 and 7. No decimals are allowed." Please remove the 0s and retry. Thank you.
